Aquatera’s Bioreactor Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project is now online and it will be getting some help from your yard waste. For the next two months, Prairie Disposal will be picking up both your organic material and regular garbage with the same truck as a pilot project.
Normally, they’re collected separately, but the waste goes to the same place. The bioreactor can then harness the methane created when decomposing and turn it into energy to power the Water and Wasterwater Treatment Plants.
Curbside yard waste pickup runs until mid-November, and until then, residents should still separate it into transparent bags.
