Manning town council places sanctions on mayor

All is not well in the town of Manning’s council chambers. Earlier this week the community’s town council voted to place sanctions on Mayor Sunni-Jeanne Walker.

In a release posted on Facebook, councillors say there has been ‘extreme conflict’ between the Mayor and council over the past year and that issues with the Mayor have affected the council’s reputation and image with regional partners and the Government of Alberta.

The councillors voted unanimously to limit the role and responsibilities of the Mayor, not allowing her to chair meetings, sit on committees, or travel on council business. She will retain her right to vote on council issues and her title.

Mayor Walker says she has been in contact with both her lawyer and the province’s Municipal Affairs department.
