UPDATE: Fox Creek wellhead capped six days after blowout

UPDATE: Occupational Health and Safety Executive Director Rob Feagan says a Snubbing unit tipped over and struck the well head. No injuries were reported.

Encana crews have capped the natural gas well affected by a blowout last week near Fox Creek. The company says the damaged wellhead was brought under control around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, after natural gas started leaking last Monday 18 kilometres west of the town.

Officials says small amounts of H2S were detected in the air nearby, but not enough to be a health risk. The Alberta Energy Regulator has been on scene since the blowout, looking to find out what caused the incident. Encana Corporation has an environmental team assessing what the impacts were on the area, and coming up with a plan to fix them.
