Wildfire season not quite over

Tomorrow is officially the first day of fall, but that doesn’t mean wildfire season is over. Wildfire Information Officer Kelly Burke says this it the time of year when grass and fallen leaves cure, and frost kills vegetation, meaning they can catch fire and spread quickly.

The wildfire hazard for the Grande Prairie Management Area is still low, but the dead grass is becoming flammable. Residents are reminded to check for build up around the exhaust and engines of ATVs and farm equipment.

Wildfire season officially ends October 31st.
