Sentence decided in 2013 Sexsmith homicide

The man convicted of killing a Sexsmith woman nearly two years ago has been handed a sentence of 7 years and 9 months in jail.

35 year old Christopher Bergeson was arrested at a home in the town on December 6th . A 35 year old woman was found dead, and it’s believed the two were in a relationship at the time. The victim’s name is protected under a publication ban, along with her children, who may have witnessed her death.

Bergeson was initially charged with second degree murder but the court found him guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter. Three years have been shaved off of Bergeson’s sentence as credit for time served, leaving him with 4 years and 9 months left.
