AER lifts suspension on another 10 Nexen pipelines

With the latest change to its suspension order, Nexen Energy is able to go back to 100 per cent operations at its Long Lake oil sand facility.

The Alberta Energy Regulator has allowed it to reopen 10 more production pipelines carrying oil emulsion, natural gas and other gases.  After inspections and action taken by the CNOOC subsidiary, the Alberta Energy Regulator believes their operation poses a low risk to public safety.

That leaves 45 still shut in after they were found to be non-compliant in August. They’ll be allowed to resume operations once proven they can be operated safely.

Nexen is also implementing an AER-approved action plan that includes more monitoring and testing, daily inspections, and regular updates on results. 31,000 barrels of oil emulsion was spilled at the site in July.
