First Shift program seeking young aspiring hockey players

Young aspiring hockey players in Grande Prairie will have a chance to learn more about the game this fall. Bauer Hockey and Hockey Canada are bringing The First Shift program to Grande Prairie, and are looking to recruit 40 to 45 kids between the ages of 6 to 10 who have never played organized hockey before.

The program will be in communities across the country, run by local hockey organizations. Funds raised earlier this year during the Every Kid Every Community Speaker Series along with donations from the Hockey Alberta Foundation, the Grande Prairie Athletics Club, the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, and Grande Prairie Minor Hockey are all supporting the program and allowing kids to take part for free.

There will be six on ice sessions and four off the ice. The program gets underway October 8. You can register through the Grande Prairie Minor Hockey Association.
