City warns of Bronze Leaf Disease

The city is warning homeowners to watch out for Bronze Leaf Disease this fall. Trembling aspen, Swedish columnar aspen and tower poplar can all get Bronze Leaf Disease. Affected leaves will become dark reddish-brown, chocolate brown or bronze, however the veins of the leave may remain green. Any leaves that become diseased will also satay on the tree through the winter months.

Pest Management Technician Amy Needham says Bronze Leaf Disease spreads rapidly and there are thousands of susceptible trees in the city.

If you find any trees that are diseased you are advised to prune branches below the start of the infection and dispose of them in the trash or the landfill. Pruning tools should be sterilized.
