K-8 school approved for Whispering Ridge

Peace Wapiti School Division is one step closer to building a new school. Education Minister David Eggen has given his approval for the K to 8 school set for the northeast part of the Whispering Ridge subdivision.

The facility was first announced back in October 2014, with room for 450 students to start. Board Chair Dana McIntosh says it will help relieve some of the enrolment pressure from Harry Balfour, and cut down bus ride times for rural students. However, she’s previously said the district still needs three more schools to keep up.

The board can now start putting together a Request for Proposals, once all requirements are met.
