The Grande Prairie Fire Department were able to rescue a man trapped in an apartment filled with smoke yesterday evening. Fire crews were called to the Montrose Apartments around 11:20 Thursday evening.
When they arrived they were told that a man still in a suite was calling for help but no one could get in to help him because of the heavy smoke. Firefighters made their way in through the hallway and got the man out of the suite and into the care of on site EMS.
He was then taken to hospital for observation. Two bystanders who had made an attempt to rescue the man were also treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were able contain and extinguish the fire in the apartment where it started. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
