UPDATE: RCMP in Whitecourt have released more details about a crash on Highway 43 that claimed two lives early this morning. Shortly before 1 am this morning a westbound car rear ended a semi travelling in the same direction.
The driver of the car, a 36 year old man, and a 42 year old male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. A 36 year old woman was in the back seat of the car at the time of the crash and was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries via STARS Air Ambulance. Everyone in the car was from the Mayerthorpe area.
Both lanes of Highway 43 were closed this morning while police investigated but they have since been re-opened.
Two people have been killed in an early morning collision on Highway 43 near Whitecourt. The crash happened 2 kilometres east of Whitecourt around 12:45 am when a westbound car rear ended a semi travelling in the same direction.
Two men that were travelling in the car died at the scene while a female passenger was airlifted to hospital. The driver of the semi was not hurt.
The names of the deceased are not being released as next of kin are still being notified.
