RCMP urging caution on the roads this long weekend

Alberta RCMP are asking drivers to be patient on highways around the province this long weekend. Motorists are likely to see more traffic on the roads this weekend and Police say they don’t want to see drivers taking unnecessary risks like speeding, changing lanes unsafely, or passing at inappropriate times.

RCMP Inspector Brian Glavin says people die on the roads all too frequently when people behind the wheel get frustrated and start driving impulsively in an attempt to beat traffic.

One person has already died on Peace region roads after a fatal crash north of Valleyview Friday morning.

Harvest is also in full swing for Alberta farmers, so drivers are asked to watch out for large machinery on the road, and to give swather’s, combines, and other large equipment lots of space and time to get where they are going.
