Tour of Alberta racers ready to cycle on to day two

Day two of the Tour of Alberta’s stop in Grande Prairie continues tomorrow out at Evergreen Park. While racers cover 170 kilometres of roadway around the County of Grande Prairie, you can enjoy the race festival from 10:30 am until 4:30 pm at the start and finish line of the stage.

Free activities at the festival will include horse-drawn wagon rides, a senior’s tea at 1:30, food vendors, a petting zoo, the Ernie’s Sports Experts Burton Riglet Park and BMX Pump Track. There will also be a meet and greet with the cyclists and a number of live music acts performing.

If you are out driving on roads around the county, expect to encounter delays along the race route. That includes Highway 43 between the Dimsdale turn and Beaverlodge, along with select roads around the community of Beaverlodge, and Range Road 82A through the town of Wembley. Racers will also be headed south into the MD of Greenview to complete two circuits along Highway 666, Township Road 700, and Highway 40. The delays will be affecting traffic between 10:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Those wishing to watch the race from locations along the route can do so at Evergreen Park, the Philip J Currie Dinosaur Museum, and main street Beaverlodge.

The awards and closing ceremonies for Stage 2 of the race will begin at 3:30 pm back at Evergreen Park.
