New Grande Prairie public school gets a name

The new kindergarten to grade 8 school for the Grande Prairie Public School board has a name: Riverstone Public School.

The 900-student school will be built in the Riverstone neighbourhood in the city’s southeast, and is currently being tendered.

The choice of name was put out to the public earlier this year, with 230 out of 390 votes, or 70 per cent, going towards the winning name.

Other possible names included Ralph Klein Public School, George Repka Public School, and Peter Lougheed Public School.

Funding for the new school was announced last December and expected to be completed by September 2016, along with the new Isabel Campbell Public School.
