Province and feds dedicate $24 million to new continuing care home spaces in Spirit River

Alberta Health Services is set to open Spirit River’s first Type B Continuing Care Home spaces to help residents receive a “higher level” of care closer to home.

The Province and the Federal Government have committed $24 million in funding to replace the current Pleasant View Lodge, and according to AHS, the new facility will see 52 supportive living spaces that were previously unavailable in Spirit River.

According to AHS, Type B care facilities provide a “home-like” environment for residents that provides round-the-clock on-site care services by licensed nurses and healthcare professionals. Additionally, officials say of the 52 Type B spaces, half will be dedicated to residents with dementia.

The Grande Spirit Foundation will manage accommodation services to current Pleasant View Lodge residents, and AHS will manage the care needs of CCH residents.

The spaces are on track to be available in “early summer” and interested residents who wish to contact an AHS home care case manager at 1-(855)-371-4122, to discuss options.
