City of Grande Prairie assessors will begin canvassing neighbourhoods the week of May 13th to update tax assessment records and perform exterior property inspections to ensure “accurate data.”
Grande Prairie Assessment and Taxation Director, Scott Smith says the neighbourhood canvassing is an “essential part” of maintaining the accuracy of city property records.
“It allows us to ensure that all property assessments reflect the current market conditions, which in turn guarantees fairness and transparency for all residents in their property taxes,” he says.
Photos and inspections are completed every five years and establish a record of any changes to properties for tax time.
Neighbourhoods being canvassed this year include Country Club Estates, Country Club West, Crystal Lake Estates, Lakeland, and Mission.
All city assessors will be in clearly marked vehicles with a City of Grande Prairie badge and will have ID badges on hand to confirm their role in the project. The city says the project will be ongoing throughout the summer and should be finished in late August.
