Wildfire hazard high in Grande Prairie region

The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Management Area has been upped to high, just ahead of the weekend.

Wildfire Information Officer Kelly Burke says grass and fallen leaves are drying out, creating a greater chance for a blaze to start. She adds that hunters, campers, and farmers should be extra cautious with machinery and ATV exhaust.

The wildfire that sparked along Highway 40 just north of the Cutbank River in early July is still considered under control at just under 100 hectares in size.
