Storm take in pre-season tournament in Camrose

The Grande Prairie Storm are off to Camrose today for a pre-season tournament. After last weekend’s training camp, and half a dozen players leaving for Western Hockey League camps, the team has been whittled down to 33 players. They’ll play the host Kodiaks tonight, the Drayton Valley Thunder Friday, and then the Sherwood Park Crusaders Saturday.

Head coach Kevin Higo says they’ll be using the trip for both evaluation of players and preparation for the season, noting there are still some spots on the team that have two or three people competing for them.  He says he’s particularily happy with the team’s depth on the back end at this point, but needs to see more skill offensively.

Higo wants to have the squad down to 22 players by September 8th,  but some WHL prospects could come back after that.
