AHS offering free learn to run or walk program for smokers

Alberta Health Services is going to be offering an 8 week program to help Grande Prairie residents that are tobacco users or are in the process of quitting tobacco take steps towards better fitness starting in early September. The Grande Prairie Primary Care Network and City of Grande Prairie Recreation and Sport Development are also partners in offering the course.

The Find Your Stride program is a free learn to run or walk course that will give participants the instruction and opportunity they might be needing to become more physically active. The program is targeting those who are tobacco users or who are working on quitting tobacco, regardless of their level of fitness.

Group sessions will be held for 90 minutes once a week, and will include a combination of walking, running, and stretching. There will also be an educational component so participants can learn about things like healthy eating, setting goals, quitting tobacco, and preventing injury.

The program runs every Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm from September 8 to October 27 at the Muskoseepi Park Pavilion. To learn more or to register call 1-855-943-6718.
