A blue-green algae bloom has been found in parts of Moonshine Lake, prompting Alberta Health Services to issue a health advisory. People who come into contact with the bacteria can become sick, with symptoms like a skin rash, fever, and vomiting.
Those who live nearby or visit the lake northwest of Spirit River shouldn’t swim in any areas where the algae is visible, and as always, never drivnk or cook with untreated water. Boiling it will not remove the toxins.
The advisory is in place until further notice.
