Community-connecting wastewater project moving forward

A sewer line that will connect Clairmont to both the hamlet’s wastewater lagoon and Aquatera’s treatment plant is going ahead with $6 million from the federal government and provincial governments. The $26.3 million dollar project involves building a trunk line along 116th Street and will serve both the County of Grande Prairie and the City. County Reeve Leanne Beaupre says it’s essential to the growth of both communities.

“The water component can be satisfied fairly easily; it’s getting rid of sewage that is quite a large concern to the environment, and this will certainly help us accommodate growth for both the County and the City and in the Clairmont area especially.”

Right now it goes to the Clairmont lagoon to be treated, so once in place, it will be taken to the wastewater treatment plant in the south part of GP. Aquatera is going ahead with the project, which Beaupre says is thanks to the support of the city, area MLAs old and new, and MP Chris Warkentin.
