Pipeline leak northwest of High Level

Roughly 100-thousand litres of oil emulsion has spilled from a pipeline 100 kilometres northwest of High Level.

In a statement, NuVista Energy says the leak was discovered Friday afternoon by a helicopter doing regular inspection and maintenance work on the Hay Lake First Nation. The five kilometre line between an oil testing facility and an oil battery was reportedly shut down immediately.

There have been no reports of affected wildlife so far, and a two metre high fence has been put up around the area, which is about 110 by 120 metres. The Alberta Energy Regulator and First Nations officials have inspected the site.
