No interest in amalgamation talks

Regional municipalities have made it clear they’re not interested in talking about amalgamation with the City of Grande Prairie.

Both the Town of Wembley and the Village of Hythe have sent letters turning down any discussions on the matter, and Reeve Leanne Beaupre has gone on record as saying it’s not in the County’s best interest.  Wembley CAO Greg Gayton adds that council’s preference is to look at service integration options instead.

The issue will likely stay rather dormant until the city hears back from the Municipal Government Board on its annexation application. Mayor Bill Given met with the minister in July, who said he hadn’t received word on a decision yet. It’s expected that will happen by September.
