Three new wildfires have been sparked by lightning in the region over the past 24 hours. One of them is listed as out of control but less than a hectare big northwest of Fox Creek.
The Grande Prairie Wildfire Management Area has seen very little action this summer, with only 68 wildfires burning a total of 183 hectares since the beginning of the season. The blaze that broke out along Highway 40 just north of the Cutbank River on July 8th has grown to just under 100 hectares, but is still considered under control.
The wildfire hazard for the region is listed as low, but residents are encouraged to be extra careful.
