No injuries in Countryside South basement fire

Everyone was able to get out safely after a fire broke out in the basement of a Countryside South home Monday evening, even the cat. The Grande Prairie Fire Department responded around 6 p.m. to find smoke billowing out of the house.

Platoon Chief Steve Larsen says the occupants directed them to the source of the blaze, and let firefighters know about the pet left inside. They were able to knock the fire down quickly and contain it to the room of origin, but there’s likely smoke damage throughout the house.

The cause is under investigation, but Larsen reminds the public to call 9-1-1 as soon as they see evidence of a fire. Don’t assume someone else has notified authorities.
