Driver chased out of town after reported hit and run

No word yet from RCMP as to whether or not they have made an arrest following a hit and run involving a family with an infant near the Cobblestone Plaza Monday evening. The offending vehicle reportedly wound up in a field off Range Road 54 northeast of Grande Prairie.

Jack Oatway lives in the area and says he watched a black jeep travelling north on the gravel road, being pursued by two other vehicles, all travelling at a high rate of speed.

“What caught my eye was that all of a sudden this Jeep was making a hell of a dust and then I realized that it was missing a hind tire. You could see the angle it was tilted at. I guess these good samaritans that were following him kind of crowded him over to the side of the road, trying to get him to stop, because they had witnessed the hit and run situation in town.”

Oatway says the jeep pulled off the Range Road and onto a lease road and into the field where it eventually lost speed and stalled out.

Once police arrived on scene they reportedly searched the area for the driver of the jeep but it’s unclear whether they have been found. RCMP has so far been unreachable for comment.
