Aggressive man Tasered by RCMP under influence of drugs

A man who may have suffered a drug overdose is currently under police guard in hospital. Around 10 p.m. Monday night, Grande Prairie RCMP tried to pull over a man on a motorcycle with its headlight off. They found that it was also missing a licence plate and had its ignition switch punched out, when the bike stalled as he tried to flee.

When police tried to detain the driver, he acted aggressively and reached into a backpack, which was later found to contain a sawed-off shotgun. He managed to escape twice on foot, and later tried to grab an officer’s Taser. He was then Tasered by police, but the weapon didn’t have an effect.

However, he was showing signs of medical distress and was taken to hospital, where he was found to be under the influence of several drugs. Charges against him are pending.
