A letter is being sent to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors requesting the speed on Emerson Trail.
On Monday, September 25th County of Grande Prairie council directed administration to send the letter, which requests the speed on Highway 672 from the west side of Range Road 63 to the existing 60 kilometres an hour zone west of Highway 2 be reduced from the current 80 kilometres an hour limit to 60 kilometres an hour.
The motion was brought forward by Councillor Kurt Balderston, who told council this area has seen an increase in collisions, including one over the weekend. Balderston added that, if approved by the province, the speed reduction would be the first line of defence in dealing with the issue.
Following the same meeting, administration will also be reviewing the Physician Recruitment and Retention policy and bringing back recommendations to council on how to expand the funding contributions to family physicians who apply, including those from the City of Grande Prairie.
The direction came from a notice of motion, which was put forward by Councillor Leanne Beaupre. The discussion was initially brought forward during the September 11th meeting but was pushed to September 25th.
