More than $12K raised for trio of animal rescues

Those who participated in New Horizon Co-op’s Fuel Good Day helped raise more than $12,000 for three northwestern Alberta animal rescues. The $12,448 will be split between Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association, In The Woods Animal Rescue, and Grande Cache Animal Society.

The funds were raised during the September 19th event, when 10 cents from every litre of fuel purchased at New Horizon Co-op gas bars and the Falher Hardware Store went towards the three animal rescues, along with $1 from every coffee, Big Cool and ice chillers bought. In addition to the donation from regular sales, barbecues were held in Grande Prairie and Falher, along with the sale of Fuel Good Day cookies, from which 100 per cent of the proceeds raised were donated to the three non-profits.

According to the local co-op, just over 76,800 litres of fuel was sold on September 19th, along with 2,340 cookies, 129 Big Cools, and 145 coffees, while the Grande Prairie barbecue raised $1,703 and the Falher barbecue raised $711.
