NWP Fairview campus temporary home to St. Thomas More Catholic School students

The Northwestern Polytechnic Fairview campus will be home to 200 kindergarten to grade 12 students for a few months.

St. Thomas More Catholic School students settled into their classes on September 13 in the Fairview Administration, Library and Carpentry buildings while also using the gymnasium as their school is under renovation. President Dr. Vanessa Sheane says having the students study in the post-secondary institution provides a unique opportunity to see what graduation could look like after high school.

“We understand how inconvenient these types of unanticipated challenges can be for our fellow learning community members. When the Grande Prairie Catholic School Division asked if NWP could assist, we immediately looked for a solution that would be as seamless as possible.”

Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools Superintendent Dr. Jessie Shirley adds the transition has been a relatively easy with the “collaborative efforts” of those involved.

“In fact, this is a really great example of how collaboration and partnerships play such an important role within the community of Fairview.”

The GPCSD will continue to hold their classes at the Fairview campus for the next two to three months or until the work on the school is completed and it is ready for students to return.
