Seven hectare wildfire sparked in Saddle Hills listed as being held

Despite a seven hectare wildfire listed as being held near the Saddle Hills forest tower, officials with Alberta Wildfire are urging everyone in the Grande Prairie Forest Area to be extra diligent with fire safety.

As of Sunday afternoon, multiple air tanker drops along with ground crews placing containment lines helped slow the growth of the blaze.

Experts say there is increased fire behavior in the region, as no significant rain has fallen in the last couple of weeks.

The wildfire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area remains at high, and since the start of 2023, 66 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area have burned nearly 141,400 hectares.
