Special air quality statement back in effect for Grande Prairie, Peace River regions

Once again, a special air quality statement has been issued for both the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview and Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning regions. As of 10:41 p.m. Friday night, Environment Canada says smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

“Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations. Continue to take actions to protect your health and reduce exposure to smoke.”

It’s noted that people with lung disease like asthma or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.

As of 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the Peace Airshed Zone Association list the Air Quality Health Index for Grande Prairie and Beaverlodge as 10+ or Very High.
