Eastlink Centre aquatics closing for maintenance next week

Starting Tuesday, the pool at the Eastlink Centre will be closed for six weeks. From September 5th to October 22nd the aquatics area will be closed for maintenance to the 50-metre pool, 25-metre pool, lazy river, family hot tub, adult hot tub, FlowRider, wading pool, and splash pad.

Some of the work being done in this time includes deep cleaning of all the facility’s amenities, fixing broken tiles and lights, along with line painting the 500-metre pool, refurbishing the 25-metre pool liner, and completing the resurfacing of more than 3,100 square metres of the deck.

According to the city, a decent chunk of the work which will be completed over the seven week shutdown falls under a ten year maintenance cycle and has not been done since the facility opened. However, the city will keep the Aquatera Outdoor Pool open for as long as the weather allows as an alternative swimming facility.

Community Knowledge Campus General Manager Angela Redding says by closing the facility for annual maintenance it helps elongate the life span of the facility and its amenities.

“We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this shutdown to support the continued maintenance and enhancement of this vital recreation resource in our community,” Redding says.

Staff will be completing ongoing employee training and development during the shutdown for emergency protocol and updating any certifications. Access to other parts of the Eastlink facility including the fitness centre, track, squash and racquetball courts, fieldhouse, concourse, and Design Works Centre will not be affected.
