Significantly low water levels in Peace region

Stream flows in basins around the Peace region are significantly below where they normally are, prompting the province to issue an advisory. Alberta Environment explains that taking out water at these levels could stress fish and the surrounding ecosystem, so withdrawals need to be restricted and water consumption reduced.

The Little Smoky, Simonette, and Muskeg Rivers can no longer be used as water sources. No new licences will be issued for the Kakwa River and its tributaries.
