A dog wash fundraiser on Saturday ended with several dogs from the Tsintah Rescue and Pet Food Bank Society going home with their new family.
The Berwyn-based organization rescues many northern breed dogs, like Siberian Huskies, malamutes, and other breeds. Lee Wilson with the dog rescue says the money donated during the event will help pay for daily expenses to care for the rescued dogs, including vet bills, building and maintenance of pens, etc. Wilson adds that events like the one held on Saturday also build awareness about the organization and the greater community.
“Because of where we are located, a lot of people in Grande Prairie possibly don’t know that we exist, so this is a great way for them to come out and see us and learn about us.”
The organization also has a pet food bank which Wilson says has seen an increase in usage “with people falling into hard times.”
On Saturday, the rescue brought eight of the 16 dogs they have in their care to the BBQ and dog wash, four of which were adopted throughout the day. Wilson says one of the dogs adopted is “an escape artist named Rose.”
“Rose was tied to a post in Dawson Creek with a note left from her homeless owner. The rescue up there contacted up and asked if we could take her. – But every day, she comes out on the farm with me for two or three hours, where she runs loose, and I can go do whatever I need to do, and she doesn’t go anywhere.”
She adds seeing Rose and other dogs go to their new home is a heartwarming experience. Anyone looking for more information about the Tsintah Rescue and Foodbank can find more information on their Facebook page.
