Dust off the fancy hats and dress to impress as Derby Day at JDA Raceway at Evergreen Park is this weekend. In addition to brunch and two $25,000 races, 2day FM staff will be judging and giving out prizes for the best dressed in several categories.
Five horses will run in the Grande Prairie Oaks Race Sunday, with the most significant achievement among the five horses being a win by Family is Gold at Rocky Mountain Turf Club in Lethbridge last fall. Family is Gold also has the most career earnings of the horses running in that race, with $7,729.
Two three-year-old horses come into the race with previous wins in the Grande Prairie Derby. Flashin Aces has raced 10 times and has two wins, with $27,122 in earnings between Canada and the United States. Altitude will run his first race on a Canadian track, having raced nine times in the U.S., winning two, with $23,546 in career earnings.
There will be six races on Sunday, with a 1:15 p.m. post time. The Grande Prairie Oaks race is third on the docket and scheduled for 2:05 p.m., while the Grande Prairie Derby is the fifth race scheduled at 3:20 p.m.
