Avondale fire guts garage

The cause of a fire in Avondale early this morning is under investigation.

The Grande Prairie fire department was called to the area of 102 Street and 107 Avenue around 2:40 this morning.

When they arrived a small detached garage in the alley between 107 and 106 Avenues was fully engulfed in flames.

Power lines went down as a result of the fire but crews were able to get the fire under control quickly, making sure no adjacent buildings were damaged.

ATCO Electric cut the power so firefighters could get the flames completely extinguished. An estimate of how much damage was done is not yet available.
