Grande Prairie under severe thunderstorm watch

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region. Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

“Thunderstorms have developed this afternoon. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe. The risk of severe thunderstorms is expected to last until late this evening.”

In Grande Prairie, the forecast is calling for a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms. There is a risk of a thunderstorm early Friday evening and a risk of a severe thunderstorm Friday evening and overnight.
