A special air quality statement for the Grande Prairie region has been issued as wildfire smoke hovers over the area.
Environment Canada says wildfire smoke in the air also reduces visibility. Residents are being advised that air quality and reduced visibility can fluctuate over short distances and vary from hour to hour.
Residents are being warned the smoke could lead to increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
