Peace Country athletes competing in North American Indigenous Games

The Peace Country is being represented at the North American Indigenous Games this year, with more than 20 athletes from the area competing in Nova Scotia. The games, which started on Monday and will run until Sunday, include competitions in 16 sports at 21 venues in the Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Dartmouth, Millbrook First Nation, and Sipekne’katik communities.

Roughly 23 athletes between the ages of 13 and 19 from local communities including Grande Prairie, Grande Cache, Paddle Prairie, Sexsmith, and High Prairie are competing in the national competition.

Athletes will take part in several events, including volleyball, soccer, softball, swimming, lacrosse and relays. All competitions can be streamed live on YouTube.

The games, held every four years, bring together more than 5,000 athletes, coaches, and team staff from more than 750 Indigenous nations.
