UPDATE: Dump truck involved in fatal crash swerved to avoid moose

UPDATE: Police say the crash that claimed a life on Resources Road Wednesday was started by a vehicle trying to avoid hitting a moose. It’s reported that just before 2 p.m., a dump truck with a trailer was heading southbound on Resources Road when it swerved to avoid the animal.

The dump truck hit a northbound pickup truck, which cause the pickup to swerve into the ditch and roll onto its roof. The dump truck also ended up in the ditch.

The 40-year-old driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was not physically injured.

The road has at Township Road 704A has since reopened. An investigation into the crash continues.

A fatal crash has led to a road closure southeast of Grande Prairie. Traffic cannot get access to Resources Road at Township Road 704A.

Emergency services are currently on the scene just south of the township road where there has been a crash between a pickup truck and a dump truck with a trailer.

It’s reported the driver of the pickup truck has died. The cause of the crash is under investigation and it’s expected it will be several hours before the scene will be cleared.
