The Grande Prairie and District Golden Age Centre is looking to the public for help to continue to provide, and add more programming for seniors in the region.
As staff continue to run monthly fundraisers in an effort to not only bolster programming, Office Manager and Fundraising Committee Lead Elaine Jobin says they’re doing all they can to try and raise awareness for the problems faced at the facility. She adds they have only recently been able to get back out into the community following a drawn out end to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since COVID-19, we’ve only really started being active again here since Fall 2022, and so we have run out of grant money,” she says “We’ve been doing monthly fundraisers, [and] we are trying to bring in more services, because there are a lot of different needs, and people tend to come here as a first stop when they’re looking for resources.”
Jobin says in addition to funding the operations of the building, they’re looking at additional programming to their already available seminars and workshops. She adds they’re hoping to receive more grant funding in the near future, but it isn’t a guarantee.
“We are looking at having more of interest programming, grief and loss workshops, workshops about elder abuse, scams targeting the elderly,” she says. “In the meantime, we are raising funds to pay our utilities while we wait for grants to come in, but that won’t be until next year, even if we do qualify for a grant.”
In recent months, the Grande Prairie and District Golden Age Centre held fundraisers marking Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. To learn more about the fundraising efforts at the Grande Prairie and District Golden Age Centre, you can contact them here.
