Grande Prairie to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and City of Grande Prairie will be hosting their first ever parade for National Indigenous Peoples Day.

The parade will celebrate the many diverse Indigenous peoples and cultures and will be held at 5 p.m. on June 21st. The parade will start at 113 Avenue and 102 Street, and will travel south on 102 Street to Muskoseepi Park.

At the conclusion of the parade, the Friendship Centre will be hosting a mini-round dance and meal at 6:30 p.m.

Elsewhere in the city, the Veterans Memorial Gardens will be holding an Orange Ribbon Cruise In, Ride In, Drive In Bannock and Chili Dinner Show & Shone to mark the holiday from 6 to 9 p.m.

According to the Government of Canada, National Indigenous Peoples Day, which was formerly known as National Aboriginal Day, celebrates the contributions of Indigenous Peoples in the country.
