The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation has committed to raising $1.5 million to purchase a new Mobile Mamogram Clinic for the AHS North Zone in partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
Major Gifts Officer Dawn Miller says the funds raised will help replace the current unit which, along with others in the province, is aging resulting in breakdowns and delays in service.
“These mobile clinics are specially built with digital mammography equipment in a modified clinical setting. The goal is to be able to fund two new units which will be used in the North Zone.”
“The end goal is to ensure the best quality of care for patients and their families, and with our partnership with Alberta Cancer Foundation, we are well on our way to achieving this.”
Fundraising efforts kicked off on June 17th with Aztec Engineering donating a portion of the proceeds raised during its 5th Annual Ball Hockey Tournament and silent auction fundraiser. According to Miller, the company has been a supporter of the GPRHF in the past. Five years ago the company committed to support the foundation’s Key to Care Capital Campaign and started the ball hockey tournament as part of that effort.
According to the hospital foundation, the event has been so successful that Aztec Engineering met that commitment and still supports the GPRH Foundation and other charities.
In 2021, the Mobile Mammogram Clinic is reported to have performed 540,000 mammograms and detected over 3,000 cases of breast cancer. Miller says she is working with a very strong fundraising committee, many of whom are breast cancer survivors, to reach their goal.
