Housing starts down in Grande Prairie, up in the county

Housing starts for the month of June in Grande Prairie are down 85 per cent compared to June in 2014.

Multiple and single family home starts combined, there were 76 in June last year while this past month there were only 11. Year to date numbers for housing starts in the city are dropping as well.

The city is lagging 59 per cent behind were it was last year. So far there have been 76 combined housing starts in 2015, while in 2014 there were 186 by the end of June.

However things in the County of Grande Prairie are up. During the second quarter of this year starts in the county were up from 88 in 2014 to 102 in 2015. Year to date starts are up from 157 to 161.
