Local amateur MMA fighter Alex Martinez is representing Canada at the 2015 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation World Championships of Amateur MMA in Las Vegas this week.
Martinez has had two bouts already and will be fighting his third today. On Tuesday he won in a decision against Finnish fighter Jussi Pirttikangas and again on Wednesday to French fighter Rayanne Bouibeb.
Martinez is now taking his 9-2-0 record into the ring against Polish fighter Patryk Ruta.
Martinez earned a spot on Canada’s national team after winning at the 2015 Canadian National Amateur MMA tryouts in Lethbridge at the end of May. He is one of 7 Canadian athletes in Las Vegas this week.
