City installing, enhancing sidewalks across municipality

In an effort to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, the city will soon kick off construction on new and enhanced sidewalks in several locations across Grande Prairie.

The 2023 Sidewalk Program, will take place over two phases, with the first focusing on infrastructure 100 Street Service Road from McDonald’s to 121 Avenue and 121 Avenue from Crystal Ridge Road to 95B Street. Crews will also be working at Juno Crossing from 93 Street to 92C Street, 76 Avenue from Poplar Drive to Resources Road, and extending the sidewalk on the south side of 76 Avenue from Poplar Drive to the east.

The second phase of work will see work take place on 109 Avenue from 100 Street to 99 Street, 96 Avenue from 92 Street to 93 Street, as well as 92B Street from 95 Avenue to 96 Avenue.

“The 2023 Sidewalk Program is a crucial component of our ongoing commitment to building a safe and walkable community for all residents,” says Mayor Jackie Clayton. “These improvements will not only enhance pedestrian mobility but also create safer routes for residents while promoting active transportation options. By investing in our sidewalks, we are supporting quality of life and an inclusive and caring community in Grande Prairie.”

Anyone in the impacted areas is encouraged to plan their routes accordingly throughout the construction process. Work on the 2023 Sidewalk Program is expected to last until the end of July.
