New curbside collection contractors for Aquatera

For the past week, you may have noticed different trucks picking up your curbside garbage and recycling. As of July 1st, Aquatera has been using new contractors. Communications Manager Lisa Peters says the switch is partly just an internal change for one company.

“Previously our contract for blue bag recycling was with Ever Green [Ecological Services], and they informed us that they’ve recently been taken over by Green For Life [Environmental]. The biggest change that customers will see there is that they’ll notice different trucks…  but the level of service won’t change.”

Ever Green had also been handling curbside garbage and yard waste, but once the contract expired, Aquatera switched to Prairie Disposal.

“With the garbage collection carts, their contract was previously with Ever Green, and as their contract expired, we just kind of reviewed the services that Grande Prairie needs, and we worked with Prairie Disposal for several years now on other contracts and decided that this would be a good fit.”

They have an additional truck, so pick up could start as early as 7 a.m., making it even more important for residents to have their garbage, recycling, and yard waste out on time. Rates have not changed.
