City finalizes agreement for $1.3M homeless initiative funding

More than $1.33 million will come from the federal government over the next five years to help prevent and reduce homelessness in Grande Prairie. A nearly $600 million investment was announced for the country last year, and Peace River MP Chris Warkentin says the agreement with the city has been finalized, as they wanted to wait until after the provincial election.

The funds will go towards city-run initiatives, with an emphasis on the housing first strategy. Projects that address the needs of Aboriginal people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless are also a focus.
