City considering review of permitted parking near QEII

The city is considering a review of the permitted parking system implemented in neighborhoods around the QEII Hospital last year. The idea was to help curb congestion in the area.

Bylaw Enforcement Manager Chris Manuel says in that time some of the things the city planned for have came up, along with things that weren’t anticipated.

“There’s obviously residents that are very happy with the permit parking in the residential area, but we also have a number of residents that have expressed that they had no problems before and that they don’t like the limitations that have been put in place for their visitors. Some people have additional vehicles outside the number of permits that they have, so some concerns have been raised about that.”

Manuel has suggested that the policy would benefit from a review.

“I think we just need to do a complete analysis of where we were before this went into place, where we are presently, what factors- if any- have changed during that time, and is there any additional capacity that could be brought online that wasn’t available a year ago. Just take a fresh look at things again.”

Manuel says he believes complaints from both those living on the restricted parking streets and those being ticketed for violations have increased.
